ABOUT JOEL

About Joel

I graduated from Cornell University in 1962 with a Bachelor of Civil Engineering Degree. I worked in the Construction Industry for a number of years before I became a High School Teacher in 1971. I taught Physics, Chemistry, Science and Math at Lynbrook High School in San Jose from 1971 to 1978.

Subsequently, I co-founded a non-Profit, “The Center For Living Skills”, which provided Personal Growth Seminars and Leadership Instruction.
I became the Headmaster at Redwood Day School, a K-8 school in Alameda/Oakland for three years beginning in 1991.

I began my Math Tutoring in Palo Alto, California in 2002 and have mainly working with students from the Palo Alto Unified School District. My students have ranged from grades 4 through 12. I have provided challenge curriculum for a number of students in grades 4 -6, who wanted to explore Algebra before it was available to them. I also developed a “distance learning math tutoring program” for a Charter School in San Jose. I cover all math subjects, grades 6-12, including Pre-Algebra through Calculus and AP Stats. My practice has expanded over the years by word-of-mouth.

Prior to Covid-19, I have visited the homes of my students on a weekly basis along with many methodologies of supplementary support.
At the present time I am using Go To Meeting to connect remotely, and while it has been somewhat of a challenge, we have made it work well.

My efforts are distinguished by the high level of service and support I provide to my students. I also have considerable insights into local private school and university entry requirements to help guide my students in their educational pursuits.
